We are looking to strengthen the existing Medical team, by appointing to a new substantive Consultant post. This new post holder will join four other colleagues across HCP, to make up a total establishment of 3.8 WTE Consultants.
The contract will be hosted by University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHBFT) and maintain NHS terms and conditions.
The Hospice Charity partnership (an independent Registered Charity), UHBFT and other system partners, work together to provide Specialist Palliative Medicine across Birmingham, Solihull and Sandwell.
The Hospice Charity Partnership formed in August 21, through a formal merger of Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice and John Taylor Hospice. Across both Hospice sites there are bedded specialist inpatient units, Day Hospice, Multi-disciplinary Community Palliative Care services (domiciliary and outpatients) and Hospice at Home. We are also supported by a well-being team who provide holistic pre and post-bereavement care to patients, families and children. There is a dedicated Education and Research department, based at St Mary’s. HCP has a strong commitment to; Research, pre and post-graduate medical education and active involvement in teaching other health and social care providers.
This post holder will be based at John Taylor Hospice in Erdington and will work predominantly with community based colleagues in that catchment, however there may be times where work across both Hospice sites and the wider geography is expected, depending on service needs. The job plan is focused on community practice, although senior medical cover for both hospice inpatient units may be required at times, helping to support a junior medical team comprising, Medical Officers (GP VTS), Specialty Doctors and Palliative Medicine Registrars.
Interest in teaching is vital. Research interests or other sub-speciality interests would be encouraged.
